Instead I laughed – it was pretty damned funny – the commercial features a bunch of good looking women sitting in a bar surrounded by giant cell-phone touting pigs. When one of the pigs goes into the male restroom he discovers a condom dispenser. After purchasing a condom he walks back into the bar where he then evolves into an attractive human male, immediately attracting the attention of the woman who had previously been disturbed by his advances. The moral of this ad – don’t be a male chauvinist pig, use a condom!
So what does FOX and CBS deem offensive about this ad? Is it the portrayal of men as pigs? Nope (although an organization known as MANN is boycotting the commercial), the reason CBS (I swear the BS in CBS stands for bull-shit) gives is that the commercial is not "appropriate" for network television "even with late-night only restrictions", while FOX objected to the message that condoms can prevent pregnancy (apparently Fox executives are found grown in a cabbage patch, which is why they have no idea where babies come from), and say that contraception advertising must stress must stress health related uses rather than the prevention of pregnancy. Ummm…. since when is preventing a unwanted pregnancy not a health issue? And speaking of which, what the hell is so bad about advertising pregnancy prevention? Especially in a country where about 50% of pregnancies are unintended? And where unintended pregnancies lead to one of the highest abortion rates in the west?
That's honestly one of the best commercials I've seen in a long time.. It actually provokes thought and good choices. I can't understand why it's banned- the government must want more STD cases on their hands, or something.
